What we're all about
Brick and Barrel is owned by Karl who is excited about making quality beer in Cleveland. Our brew house is American- made and our ingredients are of the highest quality. When you drink our beer, you will know it was made with sincere dedication.
He has a genuine love for the local beer scene, and equally for our home city of Cleveland. His aim is to contribute to the growth and evolution of both. By creating exceptional craft beers, we’re giving the local community something to be proud of.
Our company name, Brick and Barrel, is a perfect fit considering the gritty, working-man history of our neighborhood. We chose it because our story, like the story of Cleveland, is about building a legacy one day at a time - brick by brick and barrel by barrel.
Karl, our Head Brewer, caught the brewing bug years ago in Ohio wine country while working as a cellar man at Debonne Vineyards, moving on to make wine in Long Island at Bedell Cellars, and then to brew at Harpoon in Vermont. He went on to work at Kosta Browne Winery in Sonoma, California; Willakenzie Estate winery in Oregon, Esk Valley in Hawkes Bay New Zealand, Full Sail Brewery in Oregon, and Antica Terra in Dundee, Oregon. Finally, he lent a hand at Willoughby Brewing Co. briefly on his return to Ohio. He has trained in wine appreciation through the WSET and strives to continue in wine and beer appreciation and education to the community.

A Bleep About Our Brewery
Our nano-brewery was built with traditional carpentry and masonry, top quality brewing equipment, and a passion for fine flavors. Its industrial feel fits like a glove in the local neighborhood of Columbus Road Peninsula in the Cleveland Flats. One of our owners & head brewer, Karl Spiesman, can be found here, tirelessly working on the next batch of quality craft beers.
All of our beers are carefully prepared using four fermenters. There’s Sir William Wallace & Iron Maiden, our hefty 7-barrel fermenters and one 3-barrel fermenter ‘R2D2’.
With support from the thirsty beer patrons of Cleveland, Ohio, we continue to grow while maintaining an intimate ‘conversational’ environment. We’re also ordering in new wine, bourbon, and maple syrup barrels to ensure variety-loving drinkers are happy.
